Here at CGM we cannot stress enough just how happy it makes us to know that the circus is becoming increasingly popular!

Successful books turned into successful movies (like Water for Elephants) are bringing back the allure that IS circus and reminding people that, beyond technology, there is still thrilling live entertainment.  And it looks like yet another film adaption of a book will be made except, this time, the book hasn’t even come out yet!

The book is called The Night Circus and the author is Erin Morgenstern; a first-time author from Massachusetts.

“The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.” - via The Night Circus

David Heyman is better known as the producer of all eight Harry Potter movies and is now in negotiations with Summit Entertainment (the studio behind the Twilight films) to produce the fantastical film adaptation of The Night Circus. It’s still unclear when the movie will be released but there have been reports that it will be out in theaters by 2014.

Morgenstern’s debut novel, The Night Circus, comes out September 13th 2011 from Knopf Doubleday in the U.S., Harvill Secker in the U.K. and a great many other publishers around the world. ■
