Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away is written and directed by Shrek’s Andrew Adamson and produced by Avatar‘s James Cameron. It features performances from some of the company’s most elaborate productions. Anyone who has seen a Cirque du Soleil performance in person will most likely tell you how breathtaking it is, showcasing the best acrobatics and showmanship the world has to offer. Seeing a performance on a movie screen doesn’t have the same effect as a live performance does but Paramount Pictures is doing their best to recreate the magic with a new 3D experience.
“The coupling of filmmaker James Cameron’s groundbreaking 3D visual accomplishments and Andrew Adamson’s beautiful direction, combined with a timeless original story written especially for this movie, will make for a truly amazing moviegoing experience for audiences of all ages,” said Rob Moore, Vice Chairman of Paramount Pictures, in a statement.
Jacques Méthé, Executive Producer, General Manager, Images, Events, Lifestyle of Cirque du Soleil, agreed.
“This 3D event brings the spectator beyond what they could see at a show, it takes them on the stage. This unique point of view allows the audience to discover the artistic details of our productions and reveal[s] the human spirit that our artists bring to the audience in their performances,” he said. “Jim and Andrew have masterfully captured what a Cirque du Soleil 3D experience could offer and Paramount will present it to the world.”
According to the statement from Paramount, Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away, has an “original story written especially for the movie,” and will bring moviegoers “on the stage”. Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away will play worldwide and is slated to hit theaters in 2012; it does not have an official release date yet. ■
